Abnormal Pap Smears
Abnormalities in your pap smear are actually quite common. The good news is, very few abnormal pap smears end up as cancer. The majority can be safely evaluated and treated in the office, before they become severe. At Adolescent and Adult Women's Care we are able to diagnose and treat these problems, and in the large majority, return your cervix to complete normality.Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Most women are now familiar with HPV due to the power of television. HPV is not new, but has actually been around for quite some time. It is a sexually transmitted virus, that unfortunately is currently present in up to 75% of the sexually active population (both men and women) . There are more than 50 types of HPV but only some of these types lead to any significant disease that we can identify. The most common problems caused by HPV are, abnormal pap smears (precancerous changes) and venereal warts. The good news is that a vaccine (Gardisil®) has now been developed that can prevent infection with HPV. If you are protected from HPV, then you are protected from cervical cancer! The vaccine is recommended for women ages 9 to 26 and is available here at Adolescent and Adult Women's Care.Pelvic Pain/ Abnormal Bleeding
A variety of medical and surgical treatments are available for problems of pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding, all of which are available at this office. The majority of the time the treatment can be carried out entirely in the office, or with a brief outpatient surgical procedure, such as endometrial ablation with the Novasure device. Regardless, all cases are individualized and evaluated thoroughly and thoughfully by Dr. Montes.
